BattleGroup42 RTR 0.98 Released!
BattleGroup42 RTR 0.98 is here! Now you can take to the battlefield as Italians and French in proper BG42 style. Take on hordes of enemy infantry in your M11/39, hunt enemy armoured formations in your Mosquito and snipe at the assaulting forces during Operation Husky. As an extra bonus we've included two new models, the Pantherturm emplaced turret and as a preview of BG42 1.0, the Elefant tank destroyer!

BG42RTR 0.98 uses the same improvements as its parent mod, namely historically accurate damage system, projectile velocities, repairing APCs and all the other tweaks and advances players have come to expect. All the bot-supported maps released with the original expansion have been tweaked as well as a host of other maps already found in 0.98. These changes centre around applying the BG42 principle of historical accuracy with all the new equipment across the entire range of battlefields.

BG42RTR 0.98 is the latest release from the BG42 team and is aimed at owners of the Battlefield 1942 Road to Rome expansion pack.

BG42RTR 0.98 Featured Models
Battlegroup42 is pleased to confirm that the Battlegroup42 Road To Rome mod will be released this evening at 2000 (central European time). It will be about 25Mb in size and require the Battlegroup42 mod (0.98) and the Road To Rome expansion pack. It will put Battlegroup42 vehicles such as the Panzer III, Panther, Brummbaer, Panzer II, M16 GMC, Staghound AA and Bishop on the RTR maps. In addition it will put the RTR vehicles (M11-39, M3Grant, M3GMC, Mosquito and Bf110) on the existing desert and Pacific maps such as OperationCrusader, El Alamein, Rabaul and Gaudalcanal. Two original maps, El Alamein and Tobruk, have been converted so that the Axis forces are now Italian, with Italian skins, hand weapons and flags.

There will be two special features in this release: the PantherTurm and the Elefant. The PantherTurm consisted of a Panther tank turret mounted on a pillbox and used in defensive positions. The Germans made extensive use of advanced, prefabricated fortifications - many mounting tank turrets - and the most deadly was the PantherTurm. It found particular, and infamous, use in the northern Italian defensive lines (e.g. the Hitler and Gothic lines) and is therefore included on the Santa Croce, Monte Cassino and Salerno maps. It was also used during the defence of Berlin, and so has been added to the Berlin map, just outside the German base.

The Panzerjaeger Tiger (P) Elefant tank destroyer is one of the first of our new generation of models and is destined for inclusion in our forthcoming 1.0 release. However, with the growing anticipation for 1.0 we decided to give a taste of it by including the Elefant in BG-RTR as an exclusive preview. The model includes real Tiger sounds, exhaust smoke effects, a gunsight and zoom. The Elefant was a specialist tank destroyer mounting a high performance 88mm cannon in a chassis built from unused Tiger (P) chassis (this Porsche Tiger was an unsuccessful prototype built in competition with the design that was eventually accepted as the Tiger). Players will have to find the Elefant in BG-RTR, but many will know that it first saw combat at Kursk (though the DICE Kursk map is too small for such a long range tank killer), and then later in Italy.

Battlefield Vietnam Announcement | Skins!

Battlefield Vietnam Announcement
The Battlegroup42 team are pleased to announce that the upcoming BG42 1.0 release will be the final one for the Battlefield 1942 game & its engine and that future releases will be on the Battlefield Vietnam engine. Over the last few weeks we have been testing and examining the changes required to move to the Bf:v game and engine. The team are now confident that a move will bring great benefits to our players.
This means the primary focus of our work now is to complete our final Battlefield 1942 release and make sure it's better than ever. BG42 Vn 1.0 is progressing well with testing of the promised new infantry classes and other changes starting this week. Over the next few weeks we'll show more WIP and release more details of exactly how the infantry system has been altered. New vehicles will include the Elefant, SU-76 and Ho-Ni tank destroyers, M8 Greyhound and Daimler armoured cars, Hurricane and B5N Kate aircraft.

Skins!
Great models deserve great new skins and the team have been hard at it as always. Gurki has been working on a series of European Axis skins which look fantastic and Mr Arhipov has skinned Plutonius's Daimler armoured car to great effect!
