Overview

As many of the BG42 community ‘regulars’ already know, the BG42 development team has been steadily working toward our long-anticipated BG42 release for the BF:Vietnam engine. Simultaneously we have been further polishing and working on ensuring BG on BF:1942 continued development. Also, many have observed that the official BG42 forums at FPS central have undergone some serious changes and are no longer in the old locations. Lastly, the BG42 team has added some new members, two of whom to specifically work with the PR team to release development news more regularly to the community.

Our news posting this week will address all of these items, so read on!

Battlegroup42 Forums Status

Our old host, FPSCentral has undergone a change of management as many community members have noted. AMPED took over the old forums, but due to agreements with employees, the content of the BG42 forums was transferred, along with all of the accounts and history, to their new location at www.bf42.com.

You can find the old BG42 for BF:1942 forums at: http://www.fpscentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=96

You can find the old BG42 for BF:Vietnam forums at: http://www.fpscentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=595

Note we still have our BG style gameplay for the Vietnam conflict (BG Vietnam) still in the community and a discussion for that can be found at: http://www.bf42.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=595 and the BF42.com forums have a URL for both the BG/WWII and BG/Vietnam forums.

We have bigger news regarding our forums though! Although we are in the process of finalizing domain names, we hare now hosting the new “Official Battlegroup42 forums” with both our English and German speaking community together. These are the same forums that the team uses for development so you can be sure that the team is nearby when you post! Battlegroup42 for BF:1942 Update

Development of Battlegroup42 on the BF:1942 engine continues and things are coming together quickly for our planned maintenance patch for version 1.1. As always, the Battlegroup42 development team appreciates the community input and version 1.1.1 is chock full of bug-fixes as well as some core readjustments to bring back the more fluid game play of 1.0.

Chief on the list of key fixes is accelerating both the turret speed and land speed of three favorite tanks: the Tiger, The Panther-D and the IS-2. All three tanks have been closely looked at and readjusted to provide a more fluid and fun game experience as a tanker.

Another highly requested adjustment from the community addressed in this patch is readdressing the AT Rifles and AT Rockets. A much needed adjustment was introduced in 1.1 in order to address the shoot-on-the-run one-shot-one-kill nature of the AT Rifles and Rockets . The 1.1.1 patch re-balances these AT weapons while still avoiding the 1.0 problems. The 1.1.1 AT guns have faster pip convergence in all postures to help the AT class get itself out of tight situations with much less preplanning.

Another fix helps make truly useful the heavy machine gun “class”, available through a pickup kit. With the 1.1.1 patch, users of the Browning Allied HMG or the MG42 Axis HMG will be able to deploy, shoot, move and re-deploy. The HMGs can be found on several maps including: Omaha Day1, Point Du Hoc, Barkmann's Corner, Nancy, Huertgen Forest, Wacht Am Rhein, the newly revised Alps, Berlin Streets, Battle of the Bulge, Bocage, and Omaha Beach.

Minor armor adjustments have been made for tanks identified as not properly conforming with our “accurate armor” 1/3 penetration rules. The Firefly, Tiger, KV-85, T-34, SU-122, and the Cromwell have all had some minor adjustments to either their armor or to their penetration to conform with the rule. LODs on the M-10, PAK40 and stationary gun have all been adjusted. Some minor small-arms adjustments are also being implemented as well.

The 1.1.1 patch also contains numerous map fixes, most along the lines of ensuring the proper equipment appears for the correct team. Some notable changes include tweaking of the 1.1 maps based on observations in game play. Pegasus Bridge is no longer impossibly dark for users of LCD panels and, in fact, has been “lightened up" considerably while still maintaining a nighttime feel. Additional capture points have been added to create a more fluid game play. The allied breakout in the The Alps should be easier as the Axis PAK40 has been replaced with some emplaced machine guns. We have also addressed Axis breakout concerns in Villers-Bocage with an updated map affording the Germans a few more bridges into the village. Omaha Day 1 has also received some balancing tweaks including readjusting and adding spawn points to the forward capture points on the beach. The removal of the historically inaccurate AT guns makes the allied tank less of a death trap and increases the real-life feel of the map.

We haven’t stopped with the 1.1 maps, we’ve addressed some much-requested items with older maps. Pointe Du Hoc now properly bleeds Axis tickets. Liberation of Caen now includes a much-needed ammo box at the bridge. A team will have a better breakout chance in Operation Battleaxe due to a slight increase in armor when the midfield is in the opposition's hands. The removal of the APCs in Operation Mercury makes it more of an infantry action. Nancy and Debrecen have been both balanced in order to give the Axis a more equal chance. Lastly, Operation Crusader, an excellent but underplayed African Theater map is now more fluid thanks to more armor spawning at forward flags and the addition of a new capture point. We expect that many of these changes will bring back “old favorites” or put maps into rotation that haven’t seen a lot of action!

We feel that this patch, combined with the the many great improvements in 1.1.1 will result in a Battlegroup42 that you just can’t put down!

But perhaps the most exciting announcement to make about BG on BF:1942 is that the MOB clan, longtime supporters and enthusiasts of the mod have agreed to continue developing new maps and minor tweaks to the 1.1.1 build and will be working with the development team to ensure that new materials and items continue to be developed for BG on BF:1942. We eagerly look forward to announcements from the MOB team as they continue development.

Battlegroup42 for BF:Vietnam Update

The next big step for the BattleGroup42 team is the completion and release of BG42:V, our World War 2 modification based on the Battlefield : Vietnam engine.

Centered around the Pacific Theater, BG42:V combines all the original BG42 Pacific content with great new features and equipment. BG42 original equipment and features such as the M3 Stuart, flame throwing tanks and repairing APCs make the transition to the new engine. Alongside these expect new ships, amtraks, amtanks, and a series of small-arms.

From a modeling and skinning point of view many new models destined for BG42:V are receiving the full normal map treatment. This should really benefit the look and feel for all players to see.

BG42:V adopts the BF:Vietnam style of character selection. This has enabled us to create an even wider variety of kits and give soldiers even greater flexibility.

The BattleGroup42 team has always been proud of our maps. BG42:V will be released with all the original BG42 Pacific maps and those maps converted by DICE in their World War 2 release for BF:Vietnam. In addition there are a number of new pacific map projects planned for future release.

We have many screen shots of our work in progress ready to share with the community. Please remember that these are works in progress and quite a few items may change as we pull together the 1.0 release files.

Development Team Update

The last information to share in this lengthy update is the fact that the BG42 team is proud to welcome [MOB]SargeSurfat and -=NC=-Strummer to the PR team. Both members have shown ongoing enthusiasm for the mod and we appreciate their energy and effort in helping us get the word out to the community.

We also appreciate the ongoing support of the [MOB] Clan for both continuing development of BG on BF:1942 and beta testing. Clan -=NC=- (Napalm Cowboys) likewise receives continued thanks for their support in beta testing both BG for BF:1942 and for BF:Vietnam.
